a houston gas station turned into a shootout over the weekend. police say that two men held up the station. they jumped over the counter armed with guns. but the clerk was not going to take the attack lying down. he ducked around the corner and started taking shots at the intrucers. he was hurt but he's expected to recover. one of the robbers was hit twice in the arm and picked up a few blocks away. the other man is still on the loose. a family run jewelry store in colorado is out of thousands after their daughter was scammed by two men. they said they were trying to sell some gold and it was real and she turned around to get the money and while her back was turned they switched the bag of real gold with the fake

one weighing the same amount. they were paid $11,000 for the fake gold. and lots of people are dissatisfied with their cell phone carriers. but a while tail deer that ran into a store in pennsylvania didn't seem to be worried about a phone. the deer jumped the counter and knocked over a monitor and ran through the back room and had a run-in into the sink. they managed to get the deer out of the door. a cyclist was in sec place feeling good when he -- second place feeling good about his position when he got knocked off his bike. it wasn't by another biker, but an antelope. heard about palm and cup to lay out serving sizes.

when is the last time that you counted out a serving of 12 potato chips or scooped out a half cup of your favorite ice cream? now many are calling for the government to make portion sizes on labels a little more realistic so people understand what they're eating. >> reporter: when this man thinks about feeding his

families, he thinkss about things that most of us think about. the numbers keep in mind are based on one thing, serving size and that is something that he doesn't pay attention to. >> you don't normally use the serving size as a guideline it tends to be confusing 2.5 this and 3.5 that. >> reporter: health experts and health advocacy group agree and they're calling for done about it and they're calling for the fda to change the serving. >> people are eating much larger portions than they used to. >> reporter: dietician lisa says this leads to many that they're consuming few are calories, fat and sodium than they truly are. the recent study compared serving sizes on labels and came up with the list of worst offenders like ice cream, soup

and nonstick cooking spray. a serving of ice cream is half a couple and most people scoop out twice that amount. steve admits that he's one of the people. >> it seems too complicated. >> reporter: but getting the government to change it is not that simple. ask this former fda official. >> for the fda to change anything on the label is a long process. you need to find the science and reach consensus. >> reporter: he said that portions are just one piece of the puzzle. >> not to redefine what the serving is. it's just a number. to everyone educate people what the appropriate amount of food they should -- take in and when. >> reporter: till any changes are made, you may want to learn as much as possible. just some food or thought because so many of us are

camp springs outside andrews air force base. a couple showers crossing out of montgomery county and moving towards savage, laurel, parts of howard county. you may get a brief shower in here in short order. you're getting light drizzle. these are spotty showers, no question about that. most of the state not seeing a thing yet. but there's more rain to the south. temperature 71 now at the airport but upper 60s across the state. 66 in ocean city. dulles 69 and york, pennsylvania, 69. and the humidity levels moderate but with the temperatures where they are, not that noticeable. but the increased moisture in the air will help fuel the rain tonight and we think more numerous showers will be inbound as we head into today. you see the widespread rain breaking out over the carolinas and virginia and atlanta. that will continue to slowly move north.

if you look at the broad picture, this is a large storm. the upper reaches of this thing is in upper new york state. so by the time the whole ball of wax gets out of here, we could be talking about midday friday. so a couple days of unsettled weather and the chances for rain will be around. and you'll see hit-and-miss showers through the day tomorrow and more sook rains in here -- sook rains in here -- soaking rains in here tomorrow night. the backside of that system hangs out. it will blow out before the weekend. 60 and overcast tonight and developing rain. we'll talk about rain being likely through the day tomorrow upper 60s. tomorrow's forecast will bring it down to 60 or so with scattered showers and taper ovulate but not go a-- off but not going away completely over the weekend, it appears that things will dry out for us and sunshine on tap and good looking scenario here into the

stocks ended mixed today with investors waiting for europe to get out of their financial crisis. the nasdaq up 17 and the s&p 500 up almost one. a new study on the wireless industry shows that cell phones now outnumber people in this country. the group ct ia estimates that 327 million yell phones are now in use in the u.s. that is up 9% from the first half of this year alone. facebook has nearly concurred the world and now they're finally embracing the ipad. the app available for the iphone was absent from the tablet when released. rumors circulated because there was a rift between apple and facebook. whatever the case, it's now out. and now you can get your
